DSI Participate in ICT Ireland Champions Programme

(Cork, Ireland) March 13th 2007

DeCare Systems Ireland Ltd is proud to participate in the ICT (Information and Communications Technology) Champions programme.

The ICT Champions Programme aims to promote the uptake of IT related courses at third level and ICT as a career choice. The national initiative, which is partnered this year with the STEPS to Engineering Engineers to Schools initiative, is run in association with regional bodies such as Cork Electronics Industry Association and the Information Technology Association of Galway (ITAG).

DSI’s Brendan Lawlor (Process Architect) and John Ryan (Creative Project Lead) are part of a team of people in ICT organisations nationwide addressing students in secondary schools to profile their careers in the ICT industry. Presenting to post-junior certificate level, Brendan and John hope to balance the negative perceptions that exist amongst secondary schools about engineering careers in general and IT careers in particular. The Cork based schools participating in the programme with DSI are:

- Colaiste Muire, Crosshaven - Principal: Donal O' Brien.
- Carrigaline Community School, Carrigaline - Principal: Donal Murray.
- St. Vincent's Secondary School, St. Mary’s Road - Principal: Donnchadh O’ Briain

In parallel with the ICT Champions Programme, DSI also takes on transition year students as part of a work experience program from local secondary schools. To further promote careers in IT, the students spend time in various disciplines within DSI and touch on the different functions that make up a technology company.
