“Use of Spring in Semantic Web Publishing Product: A Case Study on the UK Trade and Investment” by Yagiz Erkan, Chief Technical Architect

The Semantic Web defines the meaning of information and services on the Web, which becomes a truly universal medium for data, information and knowledge exchange. This unlocks the gates of Web 3.0. A tightly relevant concept, Semantic Publishing, refers to publishing information as documents with explicit semantic markups so that information search and data integration becomes much more efficient. Yagiz discussed how DSI used the Spring Framework to power an outstanding Semantic Publishing product currently used by United Kingdom Trade and Investment agency, which is in process of being the first SpringSource-certified software.

“Stress Testing and Performance Monitoring of Java Applications in a Virtualised Environment ” by Jason Barry, Performance Architect

At both of these events, Jason demonstrated how a Java application can be deployed to a virtualised environment and then scaled to meet almost any expected, or unexpected, load. This presentation will also show how this environment can be stressed, monitored and subsequently analysed using market leading tools like Quest PerformaSure and Apache JMeter. The core technologies of interest in the presentation include Amazon Web Services (AWS), Elastic Computing (EC2) , Quest Software's PerformaSure, Apache JMeter and Oracle's JEE Container (OC4J).

“DSI's Experience of Microsoft Visual Studio Team System 2008 Test Edition” by Peter Buckley, Test Team Lead

As DSI’s Test Team Lead, Peter demonstrated how the software test team is benefitting from the newly released Microsoft Visual Studio Team System (VSTS) 2008 Test Edition, which we are using in conjunction with the Visual Studio Team System 2008 Test Load Agent software to web test and load test our .NET and Java web-based applications.

Microsoft choose DSI to feature as a launch partner at the Irish Microsoft Launch Showcase 2008, an event which officially launched Windows Server 2008, Visual Studio 2008 and SQL Server 2008 on March 11th. As launch partner, DSI shared via video podcast how their software test team is benefitting from the newly released Microsoft Visual Studio Team System (VSTS) 2008 Test Edition.
