DeCare Systems Ireland to Present at Spring Ireland 2008

(Cork, Ireland) March 03, 2008— DSI's Chief Technical Architect, Yagiz Erkan, will be presenting at Spring Ireland 2008. Held on Monday 10th March at the Hilton Hotel in Belfast, the free day long event will feature presentations from the Spring Source team including a keynote from CEO and creator of Spring, Rod Johnson; SpringSource software consultant Rob Harrop and renowned SpringSource Principal Consultant David Syer.

Following the success of Spring eXchange London, this event will help attendees gain an understanding of the 2008 Spring Framework product roadmap and vision.

Topics and speakers at the event will include:

“What's new in Spring” - Sam Brannen.
Sam is a lead architect at SpringSource and one of the most experienced developers within the organisation.

This session provides delegates with an overview of the new features available in Spring 2.5. Specifically, highlighting the simplified and extensible configuration support provided via configuration annotations and new XML configuration namespaces, new Java 6 support, updates to Spring AOP, improved JDBC and JPA support, annotation-driven web MVC controllers, the new annotation-based TestContext framework for unit and integration tests and more!

“Spring as a Full Stack Web Framework” - David Syer.
“Dr Dave” is the leading consultant on Spring in the UK. As Principal Consultant at SpringSource, Dave leads the way in the understanding of satisfying business requirements using the Spring Portfolio. His easy manner cloaks a prodigious knowledge of application development.

This session explores the "full stack" web framework trend and answers the question: how does Spring stack up? This session defines what a full-stack web framework is, then provides a fair technical comparison between a Spring-centric web development stack and the alternatives. Delegates will head about the feature-set of modern "full stack" web frameworks, and what Spring has that differentiates itself from the pack.

“The Spring Release Train” - Rob Harrop.
Rob is a much published author and lead development manager within the SpringSource organisation. A highly experienced technical architect, Rob is rarely seen outside of the office and so this is a rare opportunity to hear his highly regarded views on Spring and business issues.

This is a very rare treat. Delegates will hear about new product releases ahead of their availability, how these products fit into the overall strategy and importantly, the best way for developers to gain an advantage with early adoption.

“SpringSource Professional Services” - Greg Southey.
Greg has built SpringSource’s UK Professional Services organisation into the leading Spring consultancy business in the world.

This is a brief resume of some of the 97 major projects completed by the UK Professional Services team in 2007. Delegates will hear about the business drivers behind some major development projects, the business issues faced and how they were resolved in partnership with the client.

“Spring in Ireland” - Ian Graham & case studies.

Ian Graham, Momentum, will explore the use of Spring in Ireland and introduce 3 case studies from companies who are using the Spring family of products.

1. Kainos -Dara O’Connor.
Dara has 15 years of leadership experience managing technology projects. He has led the delivery of technical services and thought-leadership to major clients. His experience is mainly in the public sector and in financial services. His main areas of expertise and focus are in Enterprise Architecture, Java/J2EE, .NET and Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) solutions.

Faced with ongoing requirements to deliver complex and large scale business solutions, Kainos has introduced and implemented the Spring Framework to a number of its key clients. As a result, Spring has become a fundamental architectural component for both JEE and .NET solution architectures designed by Kainos. Dara will describe how and why the Spring Framework was introduced, the challenges that were faced, the benefits gained by Kainos' clients from the inclusion of Spring and how Kainos, in collaboration with its clients, intends to evolve the use of the Spring Framework.

2. Instil Software - Tara Simpson.
Tara has been working in the computer industry for over 17 years. He served his apprenticeship at Software Ireland (later Unibol), writing compilers, run-time systems, and even a database, as part of a fairly complete emulation of the AS/400. At Liberty IT he worked as a Technologist, leading application development teams, and introducing new and useful technologies (including early adoption of Spring) in the organisation. In March 2005, Tara set up Instil Software Ltd, with the express aim of writing more code and enthusing about developer technique.

Tara will describe how, as part of his work for Aepona Ltd, Spring was used to help create an award-winning telecoms application. The presentation will cover how the development team were able to defer much of the heavy lifting to Spring and how some of the newer features of the Spring Framework - most notably Spring Dynamic Modules for OSGi Service Platforms - were used to simplify the overall programming model.

3. DeCare Systrems Ireland - Yagiz Erkan.
Yagiz is responsible for driving the technical decision-making process and project implementation for DeCare Systems Ireland (DSI). As technical lead on a number of DSI's large-scale enterprise applications projects worldwide, Yagiz is focused on a pragmatic and results based approach. He is a proponent of open source, as well as process and quality improvements through agile development techniques.

“Use of Spring in Semantic Web Publishing Product: A Case Study on the UK Trade and Investment”

The Semantic Web defines the meaning of information and services on the Web, which becomes a truly universal medium for data, information and knowledge exchange. This unlocks the gates of Web 3.0. A tightly relevant concept, Semantic Publishing, refers to publishing information as documents with explicit semantic markups so that information search and data integration becomes much more efficient. Yagiz will discuss how DSI used the Spring Framework to power an outstanding Semantic Publishing product currently used by United Kingdom Trade and Investment agency, which is in process of being the first SpringSource-certified software.

Keynote: Spring into the Future – Rod Johnson

The Spring Framework began in 2002 with Rod's best-selling Expert One-on-One J2EE Design and Development; one of the most influential books ever published on J2EE, Rod is recognised as one of the world's leading authorities on Java and J2EE development.

With the rapid expansion of SpringSource and move to new corporate HQ in Silicon Valley, this is a rare UK opportunity to hear Rod provide his views and explore the future of J2EE application development.

Round Table Discussion – Rod Johnson, Rob Harrop, Dave Syer, Sam Brannen & Greg Southey

Your chance to ask Rod and his team anything that's on your mind regarding Spring.
